C. Stephen "Steve" Byrum, Ph.D. President and CEO of The Byrum Consulting Group and Retired United Methodist Elder
Our world is filled with divisions - many of which threaten to disrupt the very favbric of our lives on this planet. Yet, God's word advances the idea that God takes pleasure in people dwelling in unity. Jesus, in fact, seems to command us to be about a "ministry of reconciliation." As the Book of Common Prayer says, "The mission of the church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other, in Christ." If this is our defined role as the church, and if fulfilling that role could give us great relevance and credibility, how can we best be about God's business in the world? How can we best understand the obstacles that we face, even when we ourselves may be an obstacle? In this class, we will explore together how we might become a people of solutions.
Steve Byrum brings a half-century of experience teaching philosophy, religion, and church history to our study. He holds two Masters degrees and a Ph.D. He is the author of over 40 books. The client base for his consulting work reaches throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. He and his wife, Phyllis, live on Signal Mountain and have two children and three grandchildren. They attend First-Centenary, where he teaches the Morgan Sunday School Class.
